October 2010 Goals

October 2010 Goals

If I’m being totally honest (which I am), there are some months when I post my monthly goals and then NEVER THINK ABOUT THEM AGAIN until ’round about the 29th or 30th.  Hey, sometimes life gets in the way, right?  If I’m lucky, I’ll have “accidentally” accomplished much of what I wanted to, which produces a slightly annoying amount of smug pride (it wears off fast, I promise).  Other times — like, oh, say, THIS MONTH — I’ll just go down in a ball of failing flames.  Okay, I’m exaggerating a little bit, because I did make some here-and-there type progress on parts of my list.  The rest of it?  My head, it hangs in shame.

If I’m still being honest (and I am), for a moment I totally considered lying to you (read: to myself), and saying I’d completed EVERYTHING LOOK AT ME GO I AM SO SUCCESSFUL AND ORGANIZED.  But, well.. 1) Several people have told me recently that they really like / respect / envy that I post my goals and stay on top of things (I was not aware of this — I honestly thought no one besides me cared), and lying would make me feel like a jerk.  2) What good would it really do me?  (None.)  3) Would the face I save be worth it? (No.) and 4) Would I get these things done next month if I prematurely took them off the list? (Also, no.)  So.  Here I am.  Admitting defeat this month.  I feel pretty okay about it.

I just looked at my October schedule and it is a bit out of control (much more so than August was), but once it’s over my calendar is wide open for MONTHS. (How scary is that? Answer: VERY.  At least I have a wedding to plan.)  My honest to goodness overall goal for October is to just keep my head above water.  Simple, but noble.  So, what else?

October Goals (September holdovers in italics):

  • PRINT OUT these goals, and keep them visible at my desk
  • Keep editing time for each session / event to no more than one week (This is NOT how I work — I usually break things into small, manageable chunks — should be interesting)
  • Paint / draw at least three pieces of art to kick off our new frame wall
  • Bake at least two loaves of bread (from my Great Uncle’s recipe — TO. DIE. FOR.  Our butter consumption skyrockets when we bake bread.)
  • Write letters to two people
  • Revamp the portfolio section of this site — I uploaded maaaaany new photos, but they still need to be organized and have their accompanying colors chosen.  While I admit BluDomain templates are easy (and, when on sale, very affordable), they are unbelievably time-consuming to update.
  • Keep up with my exercise schedule (again), and get Honey on one, too! — I give us a good D+ for September.  Sorry, abs.
  • Read a business-related book I’ve had on my shelf for awhile, but have yet to pick up — Started, but still not finished.
  • Organize my paperwork (ugh) — Can you tell I’m STILL avoiding this one?

Completed September Goals:

  • Finish all my pending edits in the first week of the month — This was quite liberating.
  • Buy some new equipment to replace what I sold (exciting!) — Hello, new camera.  It’s nice to meet you.  Welcome to the family!
  • Blog once a week — I blogged more than once all but one week.  That’s pretty dang good. :)

Have you any plans for October?  I really would love to hear them.
