Inspiration: My New Office

As some of you already know, MEF Photography is about to make a move.  We’ve sold our home and are heading a bit farther south to be closer to my Honey’s work.  It’s partly because he’s tired of the commute and partly because I’m tired of him spending two hours a day in the car and not with me!  Okay, mostly because I’m tired. :)

Besides having him home in 10 minutes instead of 60+, another benefit of the move is that our new place will have an extra room for my office!  Ever since we picked up our keys this weekend, I’ve been thinking about it nonstop — imagining what I could do with a work space that doesn’t share my bedroom.  I’ve had a couple of elements picked out for some time now (color palette, lighting), but I’ve spent today compiling a wishlist.  Most of it I can’t afford at the moment, but hey, it’s fun to dream, right?

Let’s play decorate!

  1. The Daily System (Pottery Barn): Sleek, wall-mounted organization to get things off of surfaces and keep dates clear.  Specifically, I’m interested in the magnetic whiteboard calendar, the corkboard, the office organizer and the letter bin.
  2. Finnia Rug (Anthropologie): I adore the colors in this rug — the golds and that luscious splash of purple.  My palette is persimmon (my logo color), ochre and white, but I love that this rug opens up the options for other accents.  Too bad I can’t afford it yet!
  3. Photographer’s Task Table Lap (Pottery Barn): Perfect?  Yes.  Compact and simple but detailed.  I can’t decide between antique nickel or bronze, though.  I think I’m leaning toward bronze.  They also have awesome floor lamp options.
  4. Kassett Storage Boxes (Ikea): Orange is persimmon’s best friend!  Great for hiding away the little things that don’t fit anywhere else.
  5. Magnetic Timer (Anthropologie): I was introduced to this timer at the Love Affair Workshop over the summer.  It was a blue one, but I love the timer in this color.  Great for making sure you really, truly and honestly spend only 30 minutes checking email!
  6. Recycled Stadium Bulbs (Anthropologie): These are cast-off warehouse lightbulbs repurposed as sculpture.  I love how delicate they are, and I think they’re a surprise change from your usual tchotchke table decoration.

That’s just what I came up with today.  It’s too bad I’m only good at decorating in theory; I’ve never quite figured it out in the flesh.  But we’ll see what we can do with the new space as I want it to be inviting and conducive to monumental amounts of productivity!

For those of you who have offices, what’s your favorite element?  I’d love to see it!

Molly You’re a sweetheart, Nancy! I bet your place is adorable (and that you’ll spruce up your new digs in Raleigh in no time). You inspire me constantly, so it’s only fair that you take anything you can get from me. :)
