MEF Photography Blog! bio picture
  • Hello, friend! :D

Welcome, welcome! That's me over there. < -- I'm Molly, a San Francisco Bay Area-based photographer. I adore weddings, families and portraits, but my cat, food and house get a lot of my attention, too! I'm married to my very best friend, and we sing to each other a lot. I'm a mid-century modern home dweller. I'm always working, working, working to be better at life (a never-ending battle!). I get a kick out of simplicity, tea, bright colors, ice cream, cooking, sarcasm and books -- among other things. I love me some good, authentic, giggly love. And I love making people feel lovely in the midst of their good, authentic, giggly love. And if that's your thing, too, I'd love nothing more than to give you some good, authentic, giggly love photos. :)

Lacy + Gene | New Haven, CT | Engagement

So here’s the thing.  During that nebulous period of time from May through last week when I didn’t have a blog, I was still booking and going on shoots.  Even though my means of sharing my work were limited to social networking sites (Facebook, Flickr and Twitter being the main avenues), I kept busy with it.  Truth be told, this is likely part of the reason the blog and site went unlaunched for so long — I was occupied with other endeavors!

Last month, on the other hand, was sacrificed to getting this site up and running (still an ongoing process), and as a consequence booking fell to the wayside.  I have a few things upcoming (a reception in Boston, two newborns and a family), but I need to ramp up my efforts.  Thus October will be an exercise in learning to better balance the needs of site maintenance with client growth.  Wish me luck!

In the meantime, I’d like to do justice to those clients I was lucky enough to have this past summer by dedicating to them the blog posts they deserve.  So first, meet Lacy + Gene.

These two were actually recently married (though I wasn’t their photographer), but they needed some last minute engagement photos for a potential article in the New York Times.  They contacted me and said they really only needed one image, but boy did I prove them wrong!  Lacy + Gene both have tell-it-like-it-is personalities, which brought my sarcasm (and their laughter!) out in full force that day.  And even though it was hot, and the locations I dragged them to were at times a bit questionable (but beautiful!), we had a great time and wound up with some wonderfully colorful images that we all loved.

The next two are personal favorites:This looks like it belongs in a magazine:

Hair Feathers, For Nancy

This is for my sweet friend Nancy, who is adorable in most every interpretation of the word and has quite a thing for hair flowers.  I love them, too, but was blessed with a less-than-voluminous mane and must therefore stick to more two-dimensional head accessories.  So for you, Nancy, I present: Homemade Hair Feathers.

hairfeatherThe feathers came pre-assembled from Joann Fabrics (product page complete with horrible photo: here).  I simply sewed two small rubber hair bands to the backing of the piece so the whole thing can be slipped on and off a headband of choice. (I like my things to be multi-functional.)  Et voilà!  Boring outfit problem solved!

About time!

I wrote that welcome post below two weeks ago!  From that day, it took seven incarnations of this blog’s header, plus an infinite number of small code tweaks before I felt comfortable letting anyone else see what I’d done.  SEVEN!  Well, at least I’m happy with the seventh.  I suppose it could have been eight. ;)

Even still, the links in the main menu above do not currently function as they all point to my as-yet-unlaunched portfolio site.  I’m waiting on some information from one of my providers before I can release its beauty to the world.  And unfortunately, with this particular provider, waiting is the norm.

So, for now, just a very small taste of what I’ve been up to!  I’ll make full posts soon.

A hearty welcome!

After many months of portfolio padding, host wrangling and hard working, not to mention a knock-down, drag-out, hair-pulling, scream-inducing fight with a certain provider (ahem) (and also maybe a small dash of procrastination), the blog finally (FINALLY) exists.

TRIUMPH!

It’s been quite some time since I wrote regularly for myself, but I anticipate good things to come of this here Internet Web site.  So, bookmark me, add me to your RSS feeds or whatever it is you crazy kids do these days.  But most importantly: please, dear Lord please, tell your friends.  I can use all the companionship I can get on this journey!
